pertaining to evidence found in computers and digital storage media. The goal
of computer forensics is to examine digital media in a forensically sound manner
with the aim of identifying, preserving, recovering, analyzing and presenting
facts and opinions about the digital information. Experts use a
systematic approach to examine evidence that could be presented in court during
proceedings.
Digital forensics is
commonly used in both criminal law and
private investigation. There are some software and tools that helps
us to read through different types of evidence. It is glad to say some of these
are simple and common software that use in day-to-day life.
- Image analyze –exif meta data/lightroom
- Recovering and file carving –Recuwa / Autopcy
- Live Memory acquisition – 504ensicsLabs-Lime/Volatility
- Windows Registry – Regedit /FTK Registry viewer
- Sounds and Recordings, Internet History, Emails, Text Messages, Social media
Nowadays there are good
quality forensic analyzing organizations in the world. Most of them are
government forensic institutions like CART (Computer Analysis Response Team) of FBI. Sri
Lanka has established an organization named “Centre for Digital Forensics”
(CDF), to support the services of the Court with their digital analytical
skills. DFC was established in 2011 by modifying the ordinance of
University of Colombo School of Computing (UCSC) by a special announcement
since UCSC was requested to support respective law and order institutes in the
digital forensics’ activities.
Computer forensics has
become its own area of scientific expertise, with accompanying coursework and
certification. Learning Computer Forensic will be give you a different kind of
career experience than a developer if you are desired of ethical hacking. But
you will also have analytical talent, tech skills, understanding of cybersecurity,
extremely organization and communication skills apart from the tech skills.
