Family life and Human Relationships

This article is based on the speech about “Family life and relationship” was delivered by Prof. S.J.Yogarajah who is an associate professor in Tamil linguistic at the department of linguistics in University of Kelaniya at the UCSC auditorium under Enhancement program for the 1st year students of UCSC undergraduate program on 29^th August 2018. As I understood, this lecture was mainly based on family life and youth relationships.

In this session he was started by telling a story about a girl that who wants to give up her partner and unable to handle that situation. He said that she had a dream about being a graduate, get a job and have a happy family life. So her partner was not suited for her dreams after three years relationship. So, the professor has helped her to get rid of her sufferings.

He gave us a description about having big dreams. When the dream is big you will not care about the barriers and It will build you stronger. He taught us to be happy and think positive.

Professor asked us the different between 'joy' and 'happiness'. We didn't know the answer clearly. Finally, I understood joy is based on the situation and happiness is not about the situation. We all can make our own happiness in a bad situation too. It was about the attitude and the way that we are thinking. For an example, remember a good thing that you had or did in a bad situation. It is the happiness. Joy is about the present situation. If you eat tasty food now you will feel the joy; not the happiness.

Everyone needs a better personality to have better relationship. This will also help us to have a better family life. He taught us how to identify a good personality in five points. Those are,

•  Healthy Body
• Growth of intelligence
• Growth of mental and psychical health
• Growth of spirituality

           This was described in six sub-parts. Those are,

·       Ability to love

·       Ability to forgive

·       Equality

·       Ability to share

·       Simple lifestyle

·       Equity

• Growth of the better relationships with others

And he also described the other facts to build good relationships. Better communication, respect, caring, and love was also there. Then we were thought back on our own lives. Then we decided to be responsible and be a good kind person to the society.

And also he asked us “what is love ?”

>> Love is,
Sacrification / dedication/making decisions for someone's weal while accepting his/her disabilities and without any conditions.

I think this definition for love is a better answer. I already agreed with that.

We are not teenagers anymore. We have to live long and has to make our future a happy one, not a success one because success can be compared but happiness can't be compared.

We were guided to have better relationships and live a happy family life by him. I have collected many positive and good thoughts. Then he gave us his mobile number to contact him for counselling sessions. I think he is good and a trusted counsellor who can understand both languages Sinhala and Tamil. We all thankful him for the speech.
